The Rev. Ambrose J. Schneider, 76, R.R.6, Greensburg, died Friday, July 12, 1991 at his residence.
He was born Aug. 31, 1914, in Jasper, Ind., the son of John F. and Mayme Dudine Schneider. He as educated at St. Joseph School in Jasper, Ind., and attended the St. Meinrad Seminary at St. Meinrad, Ind. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 30, 1939 at St. Meinrad, by Bishop Elmer Ritter.
His first assignment from 1939 to 1941 took him to St. Boniface Catholic Church at Evansville, Ind. From there he went to the St. Andrew Catholic Church in Richmond, Ind. from 1941 to 1945. From 1945 to 1951 he was assigned to St. Gabriel Parish in Connersville, Ind. In 1951 he was appointed pastor of the St. John’s Catholic Church at Enochsburg, Ind. He served people of this parish 34 years until his retirement.
He also served as administrator for St. Anne’s Catholic Church at Hamburg, Ind., from 1979 to 1985. In 1985 he retired to his home at Lake Santee on R.R.6, Greensburg, where he continued to substitute for priests when needed. He celebrated his Golden Jubilee as a priest on May 21, 1989.
He is survived by one brother, Jerome Schneider, Jasper, Ind., two sisters, Mrs. Sam (Rita) Sermersheim, Greenfield, Ind., and Mrs. Don (Camille) Goehausen, Leawood, Kan., and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by three brothers, Maurice, Ralph and Norbert Schneider.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. John’s Catholic Church, Enochsburg, Ind., with Archbishop Edward T. O’Meara STD, Archbishop of Indianapolis, officiating.
Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the St. Johns’ Catholic Church at Enochsburg, Ind. from 3 to 8 p.m. today.
There will be a reception of the body service at 3 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. today at the church.
Weigel Funeral Home, Batesville, Ind., handled the arrangements.
