The Rev. Joseph Arthur Terstegge, 81 years old, of Cunot and formerly of Terre Haute, died at 4:30 am Fri in Putnam Co Hospital, Greencastle, of natural causes. He was a retired priest in Indiana for 56 years and a former naval chaplain of Crane Naval Ammunitions Depot. He was born March 9, 1904 in Terre Haute, Ind to Joseph H. Terstegge and Mayme Nacke Terstegge. Survivors include one brother, Tom Terstegge of Terre Haute; one sister, Sister Georgianna, S.P., St Mary-of-the-Woods and several nieces and bephews.
He was ordained in 1928 in St. Meinrad, had his first Mass in 1928 and his golden jubilee in St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection is scheduled for 11 am Monday in St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Bishop Francis Shea officiating. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is 3-8 pm Sunday, with wake services at 7:30, and 9-11 am Monday. Callahan Funeral Home East Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
