Fr. Clement Zepf Dies at Shelbyville. The Rev. Father Clement Zeph, 65, a native of Madison, is dead at Shelbyville, according to word received this morning by relatives here. Father Zeph attended St. Mary’s School here before becoming a student of the priesthood at St. Meinrad. Including among survivors are three brothers residing here, George, Frank and Will. Funeral arrangements and details of his clerical career will be released tomorrow the family announced.

Archbishop to Read Mass for Fr. Zepf. Archbishop Paul C. Shulte, D.D., Archbishop of Indianapolis, will pontificate at the funeral mass for the Rev. Father Clement Zepf, 10 a.m. Thursday at Shelbyville. The funeral will be conducted in St. Joseph’s Church, where Father Zepf was pastor for 17 years. Burial will be made there. A large number of relatives and friends from his native Madison will attend the Mass. Local Catholic clergymen who will attend include Rev. Fathers Charles F. Walsh, George Sebastian, Albert Deizmann, Hilary Meny, and Henry Gardner. Father Zepf was the son of the late Jacob and Mary Zepf. He was ordained in the priesthood on May 27, 1915, and read his first mass at St. Mary’s Church in this city, May 30, 1915. Following his first mass, he was assigned as assistant pastor to the late Msgr. Roell at St. Andrews Church, Richmond, Ind. He remained there for twenty-one years. In June 1936, he was assigned at St. Mary’s Church in Evansville as pastor. The following November, he was assigned as pastor at St. Joseph’s Church in Shelbyville where he remained as pastor until his death, Monday morning at 6 a.m. at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. He had been ill about eight weeks. Father Zepf frequently appeared before various congregations in Madison over his many years in the priesthood. He visited here frequently, the last time in August. Surviving are three brothers who reside in Madison, Frank, William and George; a sister, Miss Kate Zepf, served as his housekeeper at Shelbyville. Another sister, Louise died at Shelbyville, March 1942. A brother, Herman, died in New York City in April, 1950. Also surviving are two nieces and three nephews.
