Rev. Augustine J. Sansone, 87, Indianapolis, the first American born priest of Italian descent to be ordained for an Indiana diocese, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Calling will be from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday in Daniel F. O’Riley Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. until services Friday at the church. Father Sansone, the second oldest priest in the Indianapolis diocese, died Sunday.

The Indianapolis native was a protege of Monsignor Marino Priori, founding pastor of Holy Rosary Church, where Father Sansone celebrated his first Mass after his ordination May 21, 1929.

He served as assistant pastor at Holy Rosary 10 years before leaving to become administrator and then pastor of St. John Church in Osgood.

He returned to Holy Rosary as pastor in 1951. He became pastor of St. Ann Church in Terre Haute Indiana in 1956, where he remained until his retirement in 1970.
